Two and a half centuries of an American idea, marked at Delaware's only rescue zoo — where every animal has a story and most of them weren't supposed to be here.
When the day crowd heads home and the heat lifts, 3 Palms changes. The foxes get bolder. Pete and Repeat settle in for the evening. The alligators stop pretending to be logs. It's a decidedly quieter pace than a bustling afternoon, with volunteers along the paths to tell you the story of any animal that catches your eye — and around here, every animal has one.
What the Evening Holds
- Wander at your own pace. Self-guided, just like during the day. Volunteers are out on the paths to introduce you to Pete and Repeat, the Fox Crew, the alligators — whoever's holding court that night.
- A small crowd, on purpose, ensuring the animals keep their routines and you're not jockeying for a look.
- A quieter kind of patriotic. A few flags, soft lighting and decor along the paths, a classic patriotic music playlist, and the cicadas doing their part. No fireworks — our animals thank you in advance.
- Ready for the camera. Photo vignettes and a visit to the Patriotic Parlor.
- Sweet traditions. Roasting marshmallows over the fire pit in The Old Glory Gazebo.
