Red Fox

The most widespread carnivore in the world. They are found across the entire Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and Asia, and have been introduced to Australia.

Omnivorous and highly adaptable hunters.

• Wild: Rodents, rabbits, birds, eggs, fruit, and insects.
• Zoo: Commercial canine diet, raw meat, fruits, and vegetables.

• Wild: 2 – 5 years
• Captivity: 10 – 14 years

• Magnetic Sense: Researchers believe Red Foxes can see the Earth’s magnetic field as a “shadow” in their vision, helping them pounce on prey.
• Agility: They can jump over 6 feet high fences.
• Vocalization: They make over 20 distinct sounds, including the infamous “vixen’s scream.”
